leicsar drone lead awarded national role

Following a rigorous application process the team were delighted to find out this month that Emily Butt (LeicSAR Drone Lead) has been awarded the position of Lowland Rescue National Drone Lead. This demonstrates her hard work and dedication to the use of drone technology in a search & rescue environment.

Emily is well accustomed to the complexities of operating drones in both a voluntary role and in the wider commercial world, fully complying with CAA policies. It is this knowledge she plans to develop further reviewing and updating the concept of operations within SAR.

Her focus over coming months will be to advise the trustees of Lowland Rescue on the development of best practice within this field and to ensure all teams wishing to develop their own drone capability do so safely and in line with the Civil Aviation Authority.

We are delighted for her appointment and wish her all the best in the role….
