At the end of September the NEC was host to the annual Emergency Services Show where blue light services, the voluntary sector and the commercial sector come together each year to look at new and emerging technologies. This year was especially significant for the team as our very own drone lead & national drone lead for Lowland Rescue, Emily Butt was a key speaker on the Tech Stage and presented on the use of remote vehicles in the SAR environment alongside the Chairman of Lowland Rescue, Sean McCarry.
Emily began her journey in drone technology back in 2020 when some of the team were offered the chance to become commercial drone pilots. Since then Emily has not only taken up the role of National Drone lead for Lowland Rescue, she has also had a change of career and now fly’s drones for a day job with the Forestry Commission. Emily supports teams across the country that are looking to develop their own drone capability.
In addition to supporting other LR teams she has developed working relationship with Mountain Rescue and the National Police Air Service, where she recently took to the sky with the East Midlands NPAS team. If you are considering employing drones within your team do get in touch with Emily either through Leicestershire Search & Rescuer or nationally via Lowland Rescue.
